Yesterday I was reminded that beauty appears to us when we are open to seeing it, and can look different from what our media perceives as beautiful.
A client has hands that show her age, but are truly beautiful. Veins, knobby knuckles and wrinkles are there, but so are tapered fingers and nails. More than that, I could see the love that her hands have delivered to her children, grandchildren, and garden. Seeing those hands helped me to remember the beauty of other hands that serve, as well as their open hearts and faces.
It can be difficult to be open in our hearts and minds, when life has given us reasons to close ourselves off, and retreat into a protective shell. And there are times when we need to receive instead of give. But when we trust that being open and giving is safe, then our true divine selves are shared, spreading the beauty and love to others.
